Works to modernise the Plaça Catalunya in Sant Antoni de Calonge has started.
This week, work has started to completely renovate the Plaça Catalunya and Avinguda Costa Brava in Sant Antoni de Calonge. The Plaça Catalunya is, as its name suggests, the main square in the centre of Sant Antoni and, together with Avinguda Costa Brava, forms the access to the beach and the pleasant promenade.
The rehabilitation and improvement works aim to make this important public space even more attractive and to optimise its functionality and aesthetics.
The intervention aims to make the square a more accessible, modern and welcoming place for citizens and tourists and to encourage its use as a social and cultural meeting point.
The ultimate goal of the project is to create a square with priority for pedestrians and the connection to the sea, while optimising traffic flow. In addition, the streets and pavements will be renovated and paved with more sustainable and visually attractive materials; the choice of materials has of course been made with a view to harmony with the environment.
There will also be ample space for new planted areas with native plants, which not only improves the aesthetics but also contributes to the sustainability and saving of irrigation water for these plants.
Another important aspect in the design of the new square was the creation of an infrastructure, suitable and accessible for people of all ages and especially those with reduced mobility.
Traffic will have limited access to this area during the summer months in order to promote flow and reduce nuisance to pedestrians.
With this important investment of just over 2 million Euros, Sant Antoni will consolidate its attractiveness as a seaside resort on the central Costa Brava and ensure it for decades to come.
